Stuck in a room.
So much space around
It squeezes me.
I want to leave.
I’m free to leave,
But I have nowhere to go.

So maybe I’m not free after all.
I don’t feel free.
I have been left behind.
Forgotten.
Now what?
What do I do?

I really hate this.

March 24, 2001 - After a Few Days of Heaven

Life has been pretty harsh lately. It’s actually been harsh for quite some time now, but it just seems to be getting even worse. In times like these, I try to find solace in any sort of escapism. I don’t want this to be real. I’d rather have something else be real. Anywhere but here. Anytime but now. Really.

These past few days have been different, though. It felt like I was on holiday, but I never actually went anywhere. I didn’t consume any intoxicating drugs or anything like that. What went on in my apartment was just different than what usually occurs. Nothing much usually occurs. But a lot happened in the past 72 hours. And I was happy.

All good things must come to an end, I suppose. And so I’m waking up from this glorious dream. I’m falling from a lofty precipice. The credits are rolling. Back to normal. Maybe not completely. Things may have actually changed. That’s of very little consolation right now. I’m suffering from the withdrawal. What other worlds can I escape to? I don’t want to be left here. I don’t want to be left behind.

You know it’s a slow news day when The National Post has the headline, "Cat Stuck in Tree” on the front page. Isn’t the fire department supposed to deal with that kind of thing? I love the caption under the picture that accompanied the article: “The cat.”

Pissing Into The Toilet, With A Hard-On - 2001-03-14

Toilets have seats that can be lifted so men can urinate into them whilst standing up without making a mess. But the innovation ends there. Why hasn’t the toilet evolved to accomodate urinating while standing and having an erection? Why not, damnit!?

I smell patent!

Should I Colour My Hair Ice-Blue? - 2001-03-12

My hair has hardly changed much in the past 7 years. The last time I cut my hair was in 1993. I’ve trimmed it to shoulder length a couple times since then. It’s been a dark brown all my life. I’ve always prided in the naturalness of my hair.

But now I think that it might be time for a change. Maybe a haircut, maybe a different colour, or maybe both. For a long time now I’ve fantasized about having ice-blue hair, like some characters in Japanese cartoons. The irony is that I really don’t like Japanese animation. But that particular hair colour struck me as cool. Here’s what I might look something like if I decided to bleach and colour my hair that way:
