MarXiweb - Feb. 1 , 2000 - The Most Bizzare Dream I Ever Had

I just had the most fucking weirdest dream ever. That’s the minimum of what I feel I had to express here. I wish I could write down everything about it while it’s still mostly fresh in my memory. In the morning (when I wake up after sunrise), I don’t know how much I’ll remember. But I should really get back to sleep and there’s no way I could describe anything that touches the essence of this incredible dream. But to give you some idea, this dream was in large part one of those dreams about me having other dreams and wondering, while still in the dream, whether or not I’m actually still in the dream. This isn’t one of those so-called lucid dreams, either. I had absolutely no control in the dream and that’s mainy because I had no idea what was going on most of the time! In addition to being a dream about dreams (as well as having nested dreams, i.e., dreams inside dreams), it included dreaming about having memories of other dreams, and thinking about confusions–between whether a certain recollection was a dream or an actual memory, and between one dream and another, and between one fictitious story (of the Alice in Wonderland variety) and another, and between perception of actual reality and halunicatory psychotic episodes! Another element of the dream included computer programming languages, and I’m not sure whether or not the dream actually tried to make this whole metadream part of a computer program, but that would just be icing on the cake. Microsoft was mentioned, though???

The last part of the dream is easy to recount here, however. In the last scene of the dream, I was waking up from all those other dreams-within-dreams and it was sometime after sunrise (unlike now, as I write this). I know this because Howard Stern was on the radio, which is usually what I wake up to after a dream. Howard and Robin Quivers were gabbing about a fictitious story, trying to remember parts of it, which happened to have also been in the other dreams I was just had. In this last, down-to-earth scene of the dream, I figured that some of the bizareness was coming from the radio as I was sleeping. That would’ve made some sense at least. Then I wake up at this unlikely hour and have no idea what I just experienced!

Anyway, I’ve got to go back to sleep, even if I am still all freaked out about this.

Yes! Kraft Dinner Easy Mac : microwaveable macaroni and cheese in single-serving pouches–it’s what I’ve always wanted. No more eating out of the pot and overstuffing myself with a whole box’s worth! Hell, I don’t even have to buy milk just to make the stuff. All I need to add now is water. Those cooking classes I took last year are really paying off ???

MarXiweb - Jan. 25, 2000 - A Manila Dream That I Had

I had a Manila dream this morning. In the dream, I went to Scripting News or the EditThisPage.Com front page to find out that Dave was finally going to charge for hosting. I think it was something like a hundred dollars a month. The reason posted on the site was that the database was getting too big and with around 26 million users (in my dream, and I’m sure in Dave’s dreams, too : ), he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to cash in. The dream didn’t go on long enough for me to find out if it applied to everyone who already signed up, but it was implied that any sites that didn’t already have any content would be first ones to go. It was a scary dream???

Some of the dream came from when I went to visit StatMarket last night to check out the latest browser usage stats, and found out that I have to be a member now to see any of the stats, whereas they used to be freely available to everyone. They want people to cough up $795 a month. I just want to see how many people are still using Netscape 4! Oh well???

Another thing that might happen to me this year: Maybe I’ll cut my hair short. Of course, this is more of a possibility than an actual probability. We’ll see???

There’s just something funny about the edibility of babies.

I usually have interesting ideas floating around in my head. I’ve had a few particularly interesting thoughts lately, one of them being about modular systems. One of the best anologies for modular systems is the erector set. John Marden likens it to C++ on his ETP site. Anyway, when I typed “www.erector.com” into my browser, it redirected me to About.com! Isn’t that weird?

I had an argument on Usenet with Jorn Barger (of Robot Wisdom fame) earlier this week. It was about his critique of Jakob Neilsen’s latest Alertbox (“Is Navigation Useful?”). I’ve been meaning to write a refutation of his views on XML and structure vs. presentation. That Jorn can sure be a touchy fellow???

11:30 PM

Woops??? Now I know why Jorn seemed offended when I made a somewhat flippant comment about a Christian web site. He’s one of them??? I’m used to being in atheistic forums. Sorry!
